tl;dr: Homemade Music Talk & Tinker Tues 4/22, Member Hours on Thurs now 6:30-9, no more speed bump, MFH at Northampton Community RePair on 4/26

Hi All,

This coming Tuesday is our first Homemade Music theme in our new space, so come on out and make some (musical) noise! Do you have a musical instrument or accessory that you built, repaired or modified? Bring it along! Do you have something that needs repair? Bring it and we’ll see what we can do. Do you want to make your first (or latest) homemade instrument? You can do that too! We’ll have one-string "Canjo" (tin can banjo) kits to build, customize, and play. They’re easy to build in an hour or less and fun for kids to adults and novices to pros. The kits are free for members and for a $5 donation for non-members, while supplies last. Whether you’re into finely crafted folk instruments, circuit bent electronics, junk drawer percussion, vintage wind, live-coded beats, or something I haven’t even imagined, this is the event for you. Also, if you were planning to come to the space to work on something unrelated to music, or just want to come check things out, that’s great too.

Space Updates

Thanks to some hard work and ladder climbing, there’s no more speed bump in the middle of the shop! We now have a pull-down extension cord over the middle workbenches, which makes it a lot easier to have power where we need it without a tripping hazard. The side work benches also have more workspace now, and the drill press has been moved to make it easier to access.
Also, before you come into the space, look up and see the new sign (made by our CNC committee)!

Upcoming Events

Along with our regular schedule below, a few MFH members are taking part in the Northampton Community RePair event at Smith Vocational on Saturday 4/26. This is a great event put on by the Northampton Repair and Reuse group that provides free repair services and advice to the local community for all sorts of household items, from clothes to appliances, furniture to electronics, and it’s also a great place for us to meet other makers and creative types who might not know about MFH yet.

We’re also planning for Easthampton’s Cottage St Cultural Chaos street fair later this spring, so if you’re interested in helping out at our tent, let us know!

Upcoming Schedule

Please note: Our member hours on Thursdays now begin at 6:30

Be safe and keep making things!
