tl;dr: Next Meetup 9/26 @ River Valley Co-op, P.V. Maker Faire, social media, get involved bringing MakeFixHack to life

Hi all,

Sorry about the weird formatting in the last email, not sure what happened there. Anyway, our next Talk & Tinker meetup is Tuesday 9/26 from 6-9 in the Community room at Easthampton River Valley Co-op. The following week we’ll be at New City Brewery again for another "More Talk than Tinker" meetup (probably could use a better name) on Tuesday 10/3 from 6-9 (or whenever). Last time we had a great low-key chat about plans for Maker Faire, organizational structure and finding a space for MakeFixHack, and got to look at the moon through a small telescope.

There have been a few questions regarding kid-friendly events, so this is a good time for a reminder that, at this point, all of our events are family friendly, and kids are welcome to attend with (and supervised by) their responsible adult. And on that note, this week there will be a couple junior (<10 y.o.) members in attendance and experimenting with some kid-oriented gadgets along with all our usual talking and tinkering.

The Pioneer Valley Maker Faire is only a few weeks away and we’re definitely excited about it. We’ll probably have some flyers you can grab on Tuesday and, of course, we welcome anyone who would like to help out at the booth for a bit. Regardless, it’s going to be a great event to see and recommend everyone go check it out.

Aside from helping out at the Maker Faire, we’re also in the process of defining the organizational structure for MakeFixHack and need your help and input. If you or someone you know has experience setting up a non-profit organization, or have and interest in being part of the process (even without experience), please get in touch.

We’ve also dipped a toe into the turbulent waters that are social media by establishing a Facebook page for MakeFixHack. This will be mostly mirroring some content from the website, promoting events, and (hopefully) attracting more people interested in what we’re doing. No pressure to go interact with it, but you’re welcome to share it around if you want. And if being a volunteer social media manager for a future non-profit organization is something you want to put in your c.v., we should talk.

Ok, that’s enough for this newsletter. As always, if you have any ideas or questions, feel free to email, message on Discord, or talk to us at the next meetup.

Talk to you soon and keep making!

Bill C.
