tl;dr: Talk & Tinker Tuesday 7/23 @ River Valley Co-op, HOPE XV rundown, help us update our website just by talking

Hi All!

Our next meetup is a Talk and Tinker Tuesday on 7/23 at River Valley Co-op from 6-9. This is a great time to bring out a project you’ve been working on, something you’re trying to fix, or a gadget you’re trying to understand or want to show off. Or just come out to chat and see what others are working on. We’ll have a variety of tools available to use, including specialty screwdriver bits, soldering irons, multimeters, and a bench power supply, as well as help and advice available from your fellow makers. This takes place in the community room (next to the sliding exit doors) at the Easthampton River Valley Co-op (228 Northampton St, Easthampton) and you’re welcome to bring out any project you can carry in, work on safely in public, and clean up during our 3 hour session. If you have any questions or are looking for specific tools or advice, feel free to reach out.

The Hackers on Planet Earth conference last weekend was an amazing experience. I was able to talk with members of several NYC area hackerspaces, take workshops on everything from programming LED strips and building USB hacking tools, to repurposing cheap FM transmitters and improving my resume, attend talks on educational robotics, the founding of a hackerspace in WI, and scanning WiFi for hidden cameras. Plus live-coded musical performances, lockpicking & physical security, and an overall amazing atmosphere of knowledge sharing and collaboration. Two years ago it helped inspire me to start on this journey to create MakeFixHack, and now it has encouraged me to keep working towards the future I know we can build.

Speaking of building the future of MakeFixHack, we’re still looking for a couple more people who would be interested in having a short conversation to help one of our members redesign the website as part of a course he is taking. It’s just a relaxed interview over Zoom that takes about 30 minutes, at sometime convenient to you in the next week. Let me know at info@makefixhack.org if you can help out in this way.

Be safe and keep making things!
