tl;dr: Next Talk & Tinker Tuesday 11/12 6-9 pm @ River Valley Co-op, 501c3 approval, Open Studios connections, small comforts
Hi All,
Things being what they are, I’m very thankful for this community that has grown around the dream that is MakeFixHack and I appreciate you all for being a part of it.
Our next Talk & Tinker Tuesday is on 11/12 from 6-9 pm at the Easthampton River Valley Co-op. If you have a project you want to work on, something you’re trying to repair, ideas you want to talk about, or just want to hang out for a bit, come on out. As usual, we’ll have a variety of tools and such available to share, gadgets to explore, locks to pick, and whatever else I can manage to haul along. You’ll find us in the little glass room next to the exit, you’re welcome to grab a snack, drink, or dinner to bring it in with you, and as always, stay as long or as short as you’d like. Let me know if you have any questions about what you can bring or are looking for a specific tool or supply and I’ll see what I can do.
Some much needed and long awaited good news: Thanks to the hard work of a number of our board members, MakeFixHack Inc. is now officially a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. This means donations will be tax deductible, we can seek out grants, and we might even qualify for employer matching donations. We still might have a little more state paperwork to file, but it’s a big step we’ve been working on for quite a while and we’re excited that hard work has paid off.
Although we weren’t able to get into the space in time to participate in this past weekend’s Eastworks Open Studio, I did manage to get the door decorated with flyers early Sunday morning, then went over later to check things out and talk to some of our soon-to-be neighbors. Everyone I talked to was really excited by our idea for the space and happy to welcome us to the building, which just makes me more excited to get in there.
I make have mentioned this show in some previous newsletter, but I just wanted to recommend "The Repair Shop" once again. To me it’s a small comfort like a warm blanket, but inspiring at the same time. It’s set in a living museum in England and there’s no drama, no competition, just amazingly skilled artisans who love what they do repairing and restoring family heirlooms. It’s free on YouTube with a couple hundred episodes and for me it’s a great end of the day, wind-down or something to put on in the background when I’m working on a project.
Be safe and keep making things!
