tl;dr: Next Meetup 10/3 @ New City Brewery, P.V. Maker Faire, get involved with MakeFixHack, social media
Hi all,
Our next meetup is Tuesday 10/3 from 6-9 at New City Brewery, around back of 180 Pleasant st, Easthampton. It’s a great little spot to get together and talk, even if there’s not space to get into any major projects. They don’t serve food, but you’re welcome to bring in your own food or get takeout nearby if you’d like, and they have great drink options too. We definitely have things to talk about this time, with the Maker Faire coming up soon and a very promising opportunity to join forces with another group who share the dream of a local makerspace, so come down and chat.
The Pioneer Valley Maker Faire is only a couple weeks away, and we’re still looking for a couple more people to join us at the booth for a bit. Even if you haven’t been to a meetup lately (or ever), if you’re excited about having a local hackerspace/makerspace/community workshop, come hang out for a bit and share that excitement with everyone who stops by. And if you’re not up for working the booth, no worries, but you should go check out all the other exciting parts of the faire anyway. Pyrotechnic sound sculptures, chainsaw carving, the Great Holyoke Brick Race, and lots more. Saturday Oct. 14th from 11-5, on and around Race St in Holyoke.
Besides meetups and the Maker Faire, there are lots of other ways to get involved with bringing MakeFixHack to life. If you have a project you’re working on or something you made that you want to share, we can feature it on the web page, you can hang flyers, you can design new flyers. If you want to give a talk about something you find exciting, or run a workshop to share a skill you have, get in touch and we can plan it out. If you have experience with fund raising, starting non-profits, business law, or anything else you think might help, please share your wisdom. And if you enjoy social media or other kinds of marketing and promotion, let us know.
On the topic of social media, in contrast to the Facebook page set up last week, we also now have a listing at https://wiki.hackerspaces.org/MakeFixHack. Even though we’re reaching out onto other platforms, the most up to date places to find out about events and other news will still be the website and these newsletters. A number of our members are also active on the local Discord server set up by a couple of our members. It’s for all sorts of local topics, from native plants, to bikes, local events, and more, as well as a couple channels for making, repair, and our meetups. If you’re interested in joining, here’s an invite link. Just remember to make a quick post in #introductions to say hi when you join.
That’s all for now, hope to see you at the next meetup!
