tl;dr: Next Talk & Tinker meetup is Tuesday 7/25, survey link, "solder together" night & other changes in August

Hi all, Our next meetup is Tuesday 7/25 from 6-9pm in the community room at the Easthampton River Valley Co-op. There is also a live calendar at MakeFixHack.org if you want to see the upcoming schedule or import it into your own calendar.

There have been a few requests for more coordinated activity at the meetups, so the meetup on August 8th will include a Solder Together session where we’ll be making these light-up tops.

This will be a co-making event, rather than a workshop or class, so there won’t be direct "how to solder" instruction, though tips and assistance will be available from someone nearby. Due to the space and supplies available, this session will be limited to around 10 people, so please email me at info+solder@makefixhack.org if you’re interested. Also, due to the rules for use of the room, this is a "private" event for our group, so please don’t share it on social media or elsewhere without asking first. There is no cost for the kits, and tools will be provided, but donations are welcome and will help fund future projects and bring MakeFixHack to life.

Also, starting in August, we will be having only two meetups at the Easthampton River Valley Co-op (8/8 & 8/29). Up till now we’ve had a very generous exception to their official policy, but now demand for their community room has increased, so we’re now limited to two meetings there per month. We are looking for alternative locations to preserve the momentum we’ve gained from meeting nearly every week, and we’re also on the hunt for a permanent home for MakeFixHack, so if you happen to have any leads on possibilities for either, please get in touch! Keep an eye on the Calendar or these emails for when and where we’ll be meeting on the other weeks.

Member Survey

That’s the link to the very brief survey again. We’ve received some good feedback from it already, but the more input I get from this community, the better I can plan for our future. It’s just a few questions about what you’re looking for in this community and in a future hackerspace/makerspace/workshop, so I hope you can spare a minute or two. It’s just 4 important multiple choice questions, plus a few optional short answers. It’s anonymous, hosted on our own server, and I’ll share the compiled results in a couple weeks.
